Getting from Incheon Airport to Seoul is easier once you choose the train for your hotel, rather than simply buying the fastest ticket. The AREX Express goes to Seoul Station. The All-Stop train also serves useful neighborhoods along the way, including Hongdae.
This guide explains which service to take, what the published fares include, and how to avoid an unnecessary transfer after a long flight. Fares and journey-time figures checked: October 14, 2026.
Timetable update (checked October 22, 2026): AREX says new timetables take effect October 23, 2026. The Express adds four daily departures (52 to 56), and some All-Stop times also change. Check the official timetable for your terminal and travel date before leaving; do not rely on an older screenshot.

Quick answer: which airport train should you take?
- Staying near Hongik University Station in Hongdae? Take the All-Stop train to Hongik University. The Express does not stop there.
- Staying near Seoul Station? Compare the next departures. The Express offers reserved seating and a shorter train ride; the All-Stop costs less.
- Staying in Myeongdong? Either train can take you to Seoul Station, where you can transfer to subway Line 4. Include the transfer walk in your decision.
- Landing late? Check the last departure that reaches your actual destination before buying a ticket.
AREX Express vs All-Stop: fares and travel times
| Detail | Express | All-Stop |
|---|---|---|
| T1 to Seoul Station | About 43 minutes | About 59 minutes |
| T2 to Seoul Station | About 51 minutes | About 66 minutes |
| Adult one-way fare to Seoul Station | KRW 13,000 listed fare | T1: KRW 4,750; T2: KRW 5,350 with a transport card |
| Seats | Assigned seat | No reserved seat; you may stand |
| Hongik University stop | No | Yes |
| Ticket method | Separate Express ticket | Compatible transport card or single-use transport card |
These are train journey times, not the time from landing to your hotel. Immigration, baggage collection, walking to the station, waiting, and your final transfer all add time.
The Express operator lists an adult fare of KRW 13,000 and a child fare of KRW 9,500. Its booking page also shows a lower member price for adults. Check the fare displayed for your booking rather than assuming every discount applies. The All-Stop fares above are adult transport-card fares: a single-use card adds KRW 100 to the fare and requires a separate KRW 500 refundable deposit. Further subway travel may change the total.
Choose your route by hotel location
Hongdae: get off at Hongik University
For accommodation near Hongik University Station, the All-Stop service avoids traveling past your neighborhood to Seoul Station and then coming back. Save your hotel's exact address before departure. “Hongdae” describes an area, so the station exit and final walk still matter.
Keep your luggage in mind when checking an exit. The shortest walking route on a map may involve stairs. An elevator route can be more useful than saving a few minutes on foot.
Seoul Station: compare departure time as well as ride time
The Express saves roughly 15–16 minutes of train travel to Seoul Station compared with the published All-Stop times. That advantage can shrink if the next Express departure requires a longer wait. A reserved seat may still be worth paying for after an overnight flight.
If you are connecting to a KTX train, allow a separate transfer buffer. Arriving at the airport railroad platform is not the same as being at your KTX boarding platform.
Myeongdong: plan the Line 4 connection
At Seoul Station, follow signs to Line 4 and check the platform direction toward Myeongdong. An Express ticket alone does not cover an ordinary onward subway journey, so prepare a transport card or the appropriate subway ticket.
Do not choose an exit solely because it says “Myeongdong.” Match it to your hotel entrance. With a heavy suitcase, an airport bus stopping near the hotel may be worth comparing with the rail route. Check its current stop, fare, and timetable through the airport's official bus guide.
How to board at Incheon Airport
- Confirm your terminal. T1 and T2 are different stations. Use the terminal where you actually arrive when checking departures.
- Follow Airport Railroad signs. The airport lists the railway facilities in the B1 transportation centers at both terminals.
- Choose Express or All-Stop before entering a gate. They use different ticket arrangements. Ask station staff if you are unsure which gate accepts your ticket.
- Buy or prepare the right ticket. For Express, confirm the terminal, destination, departure, and assigned seat. For All-Stop, check that your transport card has sufficient balance or purchase the correct single-use card.
- Check the platform display. Confirm the destination before boarding, especially late at night.

Luggage, late arrivals, and common mistakes
Keep doors and aisles clear, and use designated luggage space where available. Keep your passport, phone, and wallet with you even when your suitcase is on a rack. Station walks can be longer than the train map suggests, so allow extra time if you need elevators or assistance.
For a late arrival, check the operating day's timetable once you are ready to leave the terminal. A flight's scheduled arrival time does not tell you when you will reach the platform. Check both the airport train and any connecting subway service. A train still running on part of a line is not proof that you can reach your hotel by rail.
Avoid booking a tightly timed Express departure immediately after your scheduled landing. Also avoid treating a reseller voucher as a ready-to-board ticket without reading its redemption instructions. If rail no longer works, use the airport's official bus or taxi information to plan the remaining journey.
FAQ
Can I use T-money on the AREX Express?
You need a separate Express ticket. For the All-Stop service, a compatible transport card such as T-money is an option.
Does the Express stop at Hongdae or Gimpo Airport?
No. Use the All-Stop service for Hongik University or Gimpo Airport, checking the train's destination before boarding.
Is the All-Stop train always the best budget choice?
Its published adult fare to Seoul Station is lower than the Express fare. Your complete journey also depends on onward travel, party size, luggage, and where your hotel is located.
Should I memorize the last train time?
Check the live timetable for your travel date and terminal instead. Service notices and the destination of the final trains matter more than an old screenshot.
